The Hallowood Retreat & Conference Center is a ministry of
Saint Luke Lutheran Church
of Silver Spring, Maryland. Hallowood is our witness of Christian hospitality
and caring to each guest who graces our threshold.
Although it is a wonderful retreat site and facility, Hallowood exists to make
Christ known, to amend lives, to heal, to inspire, to lift,
to be a place of rest and refreshment and creativity, and to be an opportunity for each guest to witness the tremendous abundance
of God’s love through our offering of Christian hospitality. One of our guest retreat leaders put it this way:
"You make people feel like there is nothing too good for the people of God."
We want this to be a hallowed and peaceful setting for spiritual growth. That tells the story about us.
The property was purchased in 1979 to use as a congregational picnic ground and small group retreat. Its evolution into a high-comfort retreat facility in 1992 was the result of an extensive study that revealed a need for a place that was accessible yet remote, comfortable, conducive to small group meetings, available year-round, and that would allow small communities to grow in a variety of ways. It had to be a place that encouraged openness while affording privacy, with healthy and delicious meals. Hallowood is administered through a nine member Board of Managers.
